NOAA Corps Deferment

NOAA Corps Deferment — A deferment for borrowers who serve on active duty in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Corps.
The maximum cumulative time frame that you may receive this deferment is 3 years. This is a combined limit with Armed Forces and Public Health Service deferments. You must have an authorized official of the NOAA Corps certify your dates of service.
Note: PLUS loan borrowers are not eligible for the NOAA Deferment.
Qualifications
You may qualify, if both of the following apply:
- You are a Federal Stafford or SLS loan borrower whose first loan was made on or after July 1, 1987, and before July 1, 1993.
- You serve on active duty in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Corps.
How to Apply
- Download the Public Service Deferment Request .
- Carefully read the entire form. Certain documentation may be required.
- Complete, print, and sign the deferment form. (To enter information into the interactive form, place your cursor in a field or tab from field to field. Turn interactive check boxes on and off by clicking on the box.) Mail it directly to your loan holder. Only your loan holder can approve your deferment request.
