Total and Permanent Disability Discharge

Forbearance

If you notify your loan holder that you have become totally and permanently disabled, the loan holder may, but is not required to, grant you a forbearance, not to exceed 60 days, until you provide your loan holder with certification of your total and permanent disability. This forbearance allows you to temporarily suspend payments on your loan(s) while you complete the discharge application and collect supporting documentation and certifications.
