Debt resources for borrowers

Helping borrowers manage and repay their student debt benefits students, schools, and the federal student loan program, which has been, and will likely continue to be, a financial mainstay for many students seeking a higher education. Circumstances have made repayment support even more important. Borrowers face a difficult job market slowly recovering from one of the deepest recessions of the last quarter century. Providing these borrowers effective help is the right thing to do. Here are several ways in which TG strives to connect borrowers with resources that can make a difference on the path to repayment.

Website and self-service tools

Today's generation of borrowers values mobility, ease of use, and quick turnaround — all reasons why websites offering plentiful information and interactive features are popular. Here are several TG Web-based tools.

  • myTG, TG's loan account management tool — For borrowers with TG-guaranteed loans, myTG offers help in managing the repayment process. Registered borrowers can use myTG to update personal contact information, access a summary of their TG-guaranteed loans, and review payment histories for any defaulted loans. Borrowers with defaulted loans can resume repayment on their student loans and set a repayment schedule. All borrowers with TG-guaranteed loans have access to information on default prevention, deferments and forbearances, rehabilitation, and loan discharge and forgiveness, including forms.
  • Adventures In EducationAdventures In Education (AIE™) supplies a variety of college access information to students as well as interactive resources that teach money management concepts such as buying on credit, credit scoring, budgeting, and more. AIE also provides help to students making the transition to career, such as résumé-writing and interview tips.
  • Ask TGAsk TG is a query tool and online database of frequently asked questions on student loan issues that students and families can consult at any time. A dynamic search feature allows users to search by keyword, phrase, or category. If the Ask TG database doesn't have the answer, questions can be submitted and answered by an in-house expert.

Coordinated borrower communications

During grace period, TG begins a concerted effort to contact borrowers about their repayment obligations by phone, email, and letter. These communications instruct borrowers on their obligations and describe their repayment options and resources. TG also offers a variety of awareness materials, including bookmarks, wallet cards, booklets, brochures, and posters for increasing awareness of higher education and the availability of resources for college planning and financial aid. Much of this material is provided in both Spanish and English.

In-person debt management training

TG's default aversion and financial literacy consultants offer training directly to students. Their objective is to encourage students to take ownership of their student loans and treat debt management as one part of their long-term plan for academic and financial success.
