Cohort Default Rates
The Cohort Default Rate is the percentage of students with loans entering repayment in a given fiscal year who default on their obligations before the end of the next fiscal year. The 1993 Cohort Default Rate, for example, is based on students who entered repayment in Fiscal Year 1993 and subsequently fell into default before the end of Fiscal Year 1994. (The Department of Education has excluded a number of Texas colleges and universities from its cohort default rate publications in some years.)
