TG provides the School Fact Sheets as a collection of a broad range of data for many postsecondary institutions in Texas. Each School Fact Sheet is a convenient reference that can help you learn more about a particular school and its use of student aid programs.
Higher education enrollment statewide has increased 11 percent over the past 5 years, from 1.2 million to 1.3 million. The following map shows details about the change in enrollment by Texas Region between fall 2003 and fall 2008.
The Rio Grande region has seen the largest increase in enrollment, at about 28 percent, from fall 2003 to fall 2008. The Metroplex and Gulf Coast regions have also experienced large gains. The Central and East regions have experienced smaller gains, and the West region has only gained about 1 percent. The Panhandle region has seen a slight decrease in enrollment over the past 5 years of about 2 percent.
Female enrollment has only increased one point in the past 5 years, from 56 to 57 percent of total enrollment. In three regions, the percentage of female enrollment increased one point, while it stayed level in the other four regions.
The racially ethnic composition of Texas higher education enrollment has changed over the last 5 years as well. The percentage of White students decreased from 55 to 48 percent. That seven percentage point drop is seen as a one percentage point increase in Black enrollment, a two percentage point increase in Hispanic enrollment, and a four percentage point increase in enrollment among other or unknown races.
