College Costs: More Than Tuition

is a TG Student Financial Education Program module providing an overview of the expenses and income that could be incorporated in a college student's spending plan. The module also focuses on the expenses in a college's cost of attendance, other expenses, and different sources of support, including financial aid.

Credit Basics: How Money Works

is a TG Student Financial Education Program module that shows how borrowers can use future income to make large purchases, such as an education or a house. The module also explores how lenders make money, the cost of borrowing, and tips for maintaining creditworthiness.

is a TG Student Financial Education Program module showing some of the steps borrowers may choose to take to get out of financial trouble. The module specifically discusses using a cash flow statement and a balance sheet, symptoms and causes of debt problems, and how to be a smart consumer of professional credit and financial counseling services.

Spending Plans: Meeting Goals the Simple Way

is a TG Student Financial Education Program module which explores strategic thinking as it relates to income and expenses. The module includes information on reducing spending, and planning ahead not only for monthly bills, but also for sometimes forgotten things like regular savings and expenses that aren't part of each month's budget, such as a quarterly car insurance payment.

Completing the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA)

is a TG Student Financial Education Program module that informs students and families of the eligibility criteria and application process for the Texas Application for State Financial Aid, or TASFA. The TASFA is the application used by most Texas colleges and universities to determine undocumented students' eligibility for state financial aid.

Four Steps to Starting at a Community College

For students who are interested in starting at a community college but aren't sure where to start, this module can help provide guidance with four key steps, including knowing your goal, applying for admission, applying for financial aid, and registering for class. This module also showcases some common myths and realities of community college.

Paying for College: The Basics

This TG Student Financial Education module helps students and families learn more about how to pursue a higher education. It provides key information for students and parents so that they may understand the role of financial aid in helping to pay for an education.

The FAFSA: Your Ticket to Financial Aid

This TG Student Financial Education module explores the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. This module explains how the FAFSA is used in the financial aid process and provides an overview of each section of the form, preparing students and families to complete the FAFSA successfully.


Student Loan Counseling

A Good Start: Entrance Counseling for Student Borrowers

This entrance counseling session is designed for first-time student borrowers. Borrowing is a serious matter, and this session discusses topics students should understand as they take this step. Among other fundamentals, the session covers the master promissory note, types of federal loans, interest capitalization, basic information about loan repayment, and other key elements students should understand when making the decision to finance a higher education.

Before You Leave: Exit Counseling for Student Borrowers

This exit counseling session is designed for student borrowers of either (or both) the Federal Direct Loan Program (FDLP) or the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) who are soon to enter repayment. Borrowing is a serious matter, and this session specifically discusses repayment plan options, loan forgiveness and other consolidation policies, interest capitalization, and other key elements borrowers should understand as they leave college and enter repayment.

Know What You Owe: Tracking Your Student Loans

This training module emphasizes the importance of tracking student loans, both federal and private, to achieve successful loan repayment. Additionally, students learn about the implications that mismanagement of their loans can have on their credit history.

Plan for Success: Preparing to Fulfill Your Student Loan Commitment

This training module provides an in-depth review of available repayment plans for federal loans. Additionally, students learn about the impact that certain academic decisions can have on repayment of their loan.

Private Education Loans: Preparing for Financial Success

This module gives borrowers the opportunity to learn about their specific private loan terms through practical exercises. The exercises are designed to encourage the borrower to assess their spending habits and use their private loan funds wisely.


TG offers the TG Student Financial Education Program and the TG Learning Center at no cost to Texas colleges, and to certain colleges outside of Texas that have borrowers with TG-guaranteed loans. Contact your TG Student Financial Education Consultant for more details. Certain community-based organizations with missions that focus on college access or success may also be eligible to participate in the TG Student Financial Education Program.
