Students often have trouble adjusting to life on their own and may not be prepared to handle financial obligations like living expenses, credit card bills, and, later, student loan payments. Increasingly, schools are providing financial literacy training to teach their students the skills they need to reach their financial goals. The TG Financial Literacy Program provides financial literacy resources and support as part of its responsibilities as a student loan guarantor. The TG Financial Literacy Program helps participants learn key skills for financial success, and also assists professionals in developing, implementing, and improving their financial literacy initiatives.

Structure of the program

The TG Financial Literacy Program comprises a series of 15-minute instructional mini-modules with accompanying activities. The mini-modules are designed to be conceptually "sticky" (presented in small chunks of memorable content). Strategies for gaining and holding attention include frequent presenter-audience interaction (about every 90 seconds), a high visuals-to-text ratio, and animated graphics. The mini-modules can be mixed and matched in different combinations, and all the mini-modules have associated activities (each of which takes an additional 15-20 minutes to play), so that participants can further explore the content in a fun way. The mini-modules teach a range of concepts on topics such as managing credit, saving and investing, building spending plans, employee compensation, and how to pay for college costs.

Each mini-module contains:

  • A 15-minute presentation and speaker script
  • Participant evaluation forms
  • A workbook (including space for note-taking, an FAQ, a glossary, and suggested resources for further study)
  • An associated activity (please allow an additional 15-20 minutes)

Train-the-Trainer

If you would like to be able to present these mini-modules to others, we offer a Train-the-Trainer program, available either in person for a group or online via webinar. The training is module-specific, rather than one session applying to all the mini-modules.

  • In person: For a group of professionals who would like to be trained to be able to use TG's mini-modules, we can come to your institution and deliver the training in person.
  • Webinar: In order to make sure we reach everyone who is interested in presenting these mini-modules, we offer a series of webinars. Upon completion of each webinar, you will have been trained and will be able to present two of the mini-modules. For a schedule of upcoming webinars and online registration, visit TG Webinars.

Other Webinars

In addition to the Train-the-Trainer webinars, we regularly schedule other webinars for your personal development. These webinars feature experts who share their knowledge and experiences with you. For a list of upcoming financial literacy webinars and to register, visit TG Webinars.
