School, Legislative Fact Sheets provide overview of higher education in Texas

Round Rock, Texas — TG has released its Fiscal Year End 2004 School Fact Sheets and Fiscal Year End 2004 Legislative Fact Sheets. The School Fact Sheets detail pertinent information about Texas educational institutions, including two- and four-year public and private institutions and proprietary schools. This resource provides key data about Texas schools, the lenders they work with, and the students they serve, including demographics, typical federal student loan debt loads, and cohort default rates.

The Legislative Fact Sheets provide data similar to the School Fact Sheets; however, the data is categorized by district for three legislative sectors: the 109th U.S. Congressional Delegation from Texas, the 79th Texas Senate, and the 79th Texas Legislature. Information provided for each legislative district includes student loan cohort default rates, student aid totals, median borrower indebtedness, and top-volume schools.

For a second year, the School Fact Sheets are divided into four volumes, with an expanded section of higher education overviews including breakdowns by region, school sector, and university system. As with past editions, the School Fact Sheets contain data pertinent to legislators and the school and lender communities. New data for FY 2004 includes the percentage of undergraduate students and percentage of full-time students. Information is also provided on cohort default rates, median borrower indebtedness, student demographics, and, for some institutions, graduation rates. While the resource was originally designed for higher education professionals, families and students can also use the information to help make informed decisions about postsecondary education and financial service providers.

Both resources are available online at www.tgslc.org. The School Fact Sheets can be found by going to "For Schools" or "For Lenders," selecting "Publications," and then "School Fact Sheets." The Legislative Fact Sheets can be found by going to "For Schools" or "For Lenders," selecting "Reauthorization," and then "TG Legislative Fact Sheets." For the School Fact Sheets, viewers can also see a list of every TG lender providing Federal Family Education Loan Program student loans at a given school by referring to the last two tables of the school's fact sheet. Although the publication is available in a printed edition, the online version provides the timeliest information possible.

"We're very pleased to offer this information to help the higher education and lending communities," said Jeff Webster, TG assistant vice president for research and analytical services. "The feedback we receive consistently indicates that schools, lenders, legislators, and others find the information relevant and useful in helping them understand the costs of higher education in Texas."

Both the School and Legislative Fact Sheets include data from TG, the Department of Education, Department of Agriculture, Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas, Texas Legislative Council, and various other sources.
