TG publishes two research summaries on first-generation students, loan default
Round Rock, Texas — Two new research summaries for financial aid professionals that address critical issues concerning first-generation college students and default prevention were recently published by TG.
First-Generation College Students: A Literature Review helps financial aid professionals understand the many financial, academic, and personal challenges that affect college students that are the first in their family to attend college. The research summary provides an organized summary of existing resources on the topic, grouped by major subject area. Major topics include:
- Access issues,
- Characteristics of first-generation college students,
- Retention issues,
- Pre-college intervention efforts, and
- College intervention efforts.
Student Loan Default Literature Review, also published by TG, assists schools, lenders, and other industry partners with the task of learning more about student loan default prevention. The publication is a valuable resource that can be used to:
- Assist a school in developing a default management plan, or in revising an existing plan;
- Establish a starting point for extended research activities, including the preparation of working papers and reports on student loan default research; and to
- Enhance training materials on the topic of student loan default, including presentations, learning slides, and other items.
Although a wealth of knowledge on both subjects is available from a variety of sources, until TG's publication of these two documents, financial aid professionals did not have an easily accessible, centralized resource to refer to for the latest information regarding the two critical topics. The literature reviews provide convenient starting points for financial aid professions.
Both publications are available for download and review in portable document format (pdf) by visiting TG Online at www.tgslc.org [For Schools | TG Publications | Special Reports].
