Round Rock, Texas — The TG board of directors has elected a new slate of officers to serve for the 2006 fiscal year. Albon O. Head Jr., managing partner of the Fort Worth office for Jackson Walker, LLP, has been named chair of the board. Ruben E. Esquivel, vice president for community and corporate relations for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, will serve as vice chair; and Tommy Brooks, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Unity National Bank, will serve as board secretary.
As chair of the board, Head will provide leadership for one of the nation's largest guarantors in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP), helping to ensure access to higher education for more than 350,000 students and families each year. TG currently guarantees more than $3 billion annually for student and parent FFELP borrowers. The company also assists students by providing information and guidance throughout the student's educational journey — from planning for college to successfully managing repayment of student loans. He has served on the board since his appointment by Governor George W. Bush in 1999.
"Albon's passion for ensuring access to higher education for the families and students of Texas is evident to all who work with him," said Sue McMillin, TG chief executive officer and president. "We appreciate the vision and direction he provides, and we will look forward to working with him throughout his term as board chair."
Head is a member of the American and Tarrant County Bar Associations, the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Association of Defense Counsel, and the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel. He is a founding Master of the Eldon B. Mahon Inn of Court, and a member of the Fort Worth chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. In addition to his professional associations, Head is active in many civic and charitable organizations. He is the chairman of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, past-chair of the Fort Worth Opera, the YMCA Camp Carter, and the Southern Methodist University Alumni Association. He is a member of the board of directors of the SMU Athletic Forum and the Doak Walker National Running Back Award. He serves on the Executive Board of SMU's Dedman School of Law and chairs the University's Distinguished Law Alumni Award Committee. He is also a member of the Executive Board of the SMU-in-Taos campus.
Ruben Esquivel, vice chair, was first appointed to the TG board in 1997 by Governor George W. Bush. Esquivel also serves on the board of directors for Comerica Bank — Texas and chairs the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza board. He has served on numerous civic and community boards and has been chairman of the North Texas Commission, Parkland Memorial Hospital, DeSoto I.S.D., The Dallas Foundation, The Dallas Opera, and the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. He is the immediate past chair of the TG board of directors.
Tommy Brooks, secretary, was appointed to the TG board in 2002 by Governor Rick Perry. A resident of Sugar Land, Brooks is involved in numerous civic and community organizations. Specifically, he serves on the boards of the National Bankers Association, Joy Baptist Tabernacle, Inner City Youth, and the Hope for Houston charter school.
