Round Rock, TX — The complexities of today's economic environment have made it necessary for students to acquire the fundamental skills required to make smarter choices when it comes to their financial decisions. So great is the need to build these skills that April has been designated Financial Literacy Month. It's the reason that TG's Positive+Balance Community has increasingly become a popular first-step in devising programs designed to help financial aid administrators and educators explain financial literacy to their students.
"We believe focus on financial literacy is essential year-round," said Sue McMillin, TG's President and CEO. "TG addressed that need with the Positive+Balance Community, a Web site wholly designed to help our education colleagues teach students how to develop responsible financial habits and become overall better-informed consumers."
Positive+Balance Community members have access to an online library that features an assortment of training presentations and other educational materials, all of which are free and easy to download. TG's Positive+Balance training sessions for students and professionals, like Money Management 101, Credit Card Basics, Paying for College, and Developing and Implementing a Financial Literacy Program, are also available on the site. Additionally, members can post their program content for peer feedback, or easy collaboration between institutions.
Besides being a one-stop, resource-sharing site, the online forum hosts a community blog section, the latest news regarding financial literacy, and recommended Web links that include sites specifically geared to financial literacy information.
Users can create a personal profile page and use the site to search for other members by name, job title, school location, and other criteria, such as personal goals and interests. Users can also contact members to create groups, collaborate, discuss projects, and plan events.
"Providing financial literacy resources that make educators and financial aid administrators' jobs easier and more effective is part of our ongoing mission at TG," said Margie Harvey, TG's financial literacy program manager. "The online forum is one component of TG's entire financial literacy program, which also includes training for administrators looking to organize programs at their campus, and materials for students that can help them better understand future financial decisions."
