Round Rock, TX — TG, one the nation's largest federal student loan guarantors, has announced the dates and locations for its 2010 Financial Literacy Symposia. Since 2008, TG has hosted the free symposia, allowing financial aid officers and college officials to share insight, and strategize on improving students' money management skills. Average student loan debt has doubled since the 1990s, and more students are turning to other ways, such as credit cards and high-cost private loans, to pay for college. As a result, many have built up thousands of dollars of debt, which puts them at greater risk of default.
"Last year, the overall national default rate increased for federal student loans, and we expect to see that trend continue unless college administrators are given the tools to help students make better money management decisions," said Margie Harvey, TG financial literacy program manager. "TG's Financial Literacy Symposia are designed to help schools learn strategies for building their own effective financial literacy programs," she added.
TG's first symposium, scheduled for January 26, 2010, in San Diego, will focus on building effective programs for proprietary schools. Additional dates and locations for the TG Financial Literacy Symposia are as follows:
Last year, the symposia earned an overall customer satisfaction score of 4.84 out of a possible 5. Past participant-led discussions have resulted in TG developing additional online resources, such as the Positive+Balance Community℠. This online community offers financial literacy solutions and tools for financial aid administrators and educators.
Participants can register for the TG Financial Literacy Symposia by visiting www.tgslc.org.
