TG offers schools customized default management service

HigherEDGE offers strategies to help lower default rates

Round Rock, TX — Today, students are borrowing more to pay for college, and college administrators are required to do more to help student borrowers stay on the path to repayment. To assist schools in their efforts, TG has introduced HigherEDGE™ Default Aversion Solutions, a customized, fee-based default management service designed to prevent both Federal Direct Loan and Federal Family Education Loan Program borrowers from defaulting on their student loans.

"Because institutions and their students rely very heavily on federal funds, it's crucial that they keep campus cohort default rates down," explains Rinn Harper, TG's vice president of operations. "With TG's HigherEDGE services and nearly 30 years of default aversion experience, schools can be assured they have an advocate in their corner to help students stay on track with federal loan repayment obligations."

HigherEDGE Default Aversion Solutions provides school customers strategies to help meet their default management goals. The fee-based offering provides a cost-effective solution to schools through personalized service to students, helping them understand their responsibilities as borrowers and providing options to help them stay out of default.

HigherEDGE Default Aversion Solutions counselors can:

  • Allow school financial aid staff to focus on other priorities, such as counseling current students
  • Contact borrowers during their grace period to remind them of loan obligations and repayment options
  • Serve as an advocate for borrowers by encouraging contact with lenders and servicers to help resolve loan delinquency

"We found that communicating early and often with student borrowers helps mitigate the chances that they may later default on their loans," says Harper.
