National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)
The primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing educational data in the U.S. and other nations. Higher education sites include the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), which contains institution-level data on enrollments, program completions, etc., and the National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS), designed to determine how students and their families pay for postsecondary education and to describe demographic and other characteristics of those enrolled.
National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education
Independent organization that promotes public policies that enhance opportunities to pursue and achieve a quality higher education. Publishes Measuring Up, a report that grades the 50 states on their performance in academic preparation, participation, affordability, completion, and benefits of education.
Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
Texas state agency that provides statistics on Texas public institutions of higher learning, including data on enrollment, student aid, and retention and graduation rates.
Texas Labor Market Information
Texas Workforce Commission information on regional labor markets in Texas, including data on employment, wages, and fastest-growing occupations.
Texas State Data Center and Office of the State Demographer
Focal point for Texas demographic statistics as well as projections for the future. Recent publications include The Texas Challenge in the Twenty-first Century: Implications for Population Change in the State of Texas, which makes projections to 2040 and examines the effects of trends such as the growth of the non-Anglo population.
U.S. Department of Education's Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE)
Good source for data on federal programs such as the Pell Grant and FFELP.
