TG updates

"FFELP: Live in Concert!" ready to play to sellout crowd
This week, more than 500 financial aid administrators and student loan professionals are converging on Austin for the 2003 TG Annual Conference — "FFELP: Live in Concert!" At a time when travel budgets are tight and conference attendance is down across the industry, TG is delighted and gratified that so many customers and business partners have chosen to spend a few days with us.

TG posts military mobilization information for students, borrowers
Students and borrowers who are called to active duty or reassigned as a result of the ongoing military mobilization have a lot more important things to do than search around for information about how this change will affect their student loans. That is why TG has created a web page that offers — in one location — guidance for affected students and borrowers, no matter what their specific circumstances.

Legislative update

The April 15, 2003, issue of the Legislative Report provides updates on the budget resolution and wartime supplemental recently passed by Congress, and the projected effect of the supplemental on the nation's deficit. Also provided are updates on bills related to student financial aid, tuition, and fees being considered by Congress and the 78th Texas Legislature. Read the full report at www.tgslc.org/lege_report/index.cfm.

This, that, and the other...

Music is in the air for financial aid professionals these days. TG's conference this week has a musical theme, "FFELP: Live in Concert!" Even the feds are getting in on the act. In what seems like a new twist on Schoolhouse Rock, ED recently posted an audio file with a rap about verification on its IFAP website at www.ifap.ed.gov/presentations/

.

The verification rap was originally featured in a general session at ED's Electronic Access Conference late last year. Props to the rap's author, Erik Melis of George Mason University, for the clever rhymes. And props to ED for sharing the audio file and lyric sheet with those of us who were unable to catch it live.
