The demand for education and the economic challenges facing state and federal budgets are on a collision course, according to a new study from the Education Commission of the States (ECS). "Closing the College Participation Gap" examines factors behind a growing college participation gap in the United States.

With the study, ECS has posted profiles documenting the extent of postsecondary education participation in each of the 50 states and in the nation as a whole. The profiles also address the conditions likely to influence access and participation.
