Legislative Update

The January 27 issue of TG’s Legislative Report includes updates on the U.S. Senate’s passage of FY 2004 omnibus appropriations and consideration of a pension reform bill, and the release of the Congressional Budget Office’s annual reports on unauthorized appropriations and expiring authorizations. Also included is news on an executive order from Texas Governor Rick Perry that universities begin setting accountability and efficiency standards. Keep up with the latest developments by reading the full report on TG Online at www.tgslc.org/lege_report/index.cfm.

Tip of the Week

Consider starting a systemic default aversion program on your campus, involving staff and faculty across the institution to help students avoid default. Call TG default prevention at (800) 338-4752 for more information about how to get started.

This, That, and the Other...

Will your state see more high school graduates over the next 10 years — or fewer? While the number of graduates is projected to increase in half the states, the number is actually expected to decline in the other half and in the District of Columbia. How will your state fare?

If you’ve ever wished you could see into the future, ED is doing its best to help you out — at least for predicting the future of education. Detailed projections on a number of elementary, secondary, and higher education measures are now available online, courtesy of ED’s National Center for Education Statistics.

To find out whether your state will see more or fewer high school graduates in the future, review the table at http://nces.ed.gov/programs/
