Constitution Day notice posted to Federal Register
Today, ED posted a notice to the Federal Register regarding the Constitution Day and Citizenship Day provision that was included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2005. The Constitution Day provision, first reported about in Shoptalk Online Edition 285 (see www.tgslc.org/shoptalk/2004/st285/st28501.cfm), requires any school that receives federal funding to hold an educational program on the United States Constitution on September 17 of each year.

Latest volume of the 2005-06 FSA Handbook now online
ED has released Volume 5 of the 2005-06 Federal Student Aid Handbook (FSA Handbook). This is the third volume that has been released so far for the upcoming award year.

The mission of this industry initiative is to shape effective financial aid policy and practices that impact student enrollment, retention, and graduation rates at community colleges.

CNN/Money reports that high school students entering college are as likely to aspire to becoming teachers as they are doctors or lawyers.

Legislative Update

The May 17 issue of TG's Legislative Report includes the memo sent to Texas' congressional delegation from TG, the Texas Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (TASFAA), and the Association of Texas Lenders for Education (ATLE) with the three groups' recommendations on the STAR Act legislation in the upcoming reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.
