More students are getting an early start on college thanks to dual-credit programs offered jointly by high schools and colleges. SandHoke Early College High School in North Carolina is one example. Participating SandHoke seniors attend classes at a local community college earning credit for both their high school diploma and a potential college degree. Programs like these are especially helpful when offered to at-risk students, that is, students who are more likely to drop out of high school. Dual-credit programs can promote college enrollment and retention, both potential issues for at-risk youth. Learn more about the SandHoke program.
