What is the TG Annual Training Conference?
TG's Annual Training Conference is a premier industry training event that has historically helped financial aid administrators and industry partners maximize their industry knowledge to improve financial aid services for their families and students. Conference participants have enjoyed the TG Annual Training Conference each spring because it has consistently provided valuable networking and professional development opportunities and industry-related training.
The 2012 TG Conference Agenda will be tailored to provide value to audiences beyond the traditional financial aid professional focus to include higher education student services professionals, as well as high school and financial counselors, and employees of non-profit organizations, as they share TG's passion for helping students and families attain their educational and career goals.
What type of training is provided at the TG Annual Training Conference?
Training sessions will be divided into educational tracks based on target audiences and areas of interest. The agenda will provide registration options designed to meet both training needs and travel budgets, whether registrants can attend one day, two days, or take advantage of the full three-day agenda for only $150. Attendees will have their choice of a variety of topics with concurrent sessions in financial literacy, default aversion, higher education policy and legislative, and college access and success tracks. There will also be opportunities for various professional development opportunities and workshops which will facilitate valuable exchange.
Note that Texas Education Agency has approved the addition of the TG Financial Literacy Program to the list of instructional materials that teachers can use to teach Texas students basic skills and concepts of money management, and that participants in Financial Literacy sessions/workshops can also qualify for continuing education units (CEUs) from the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education.
Attendees have their choice of a variety of learning tracks:
- Higher Education/Policy sessions on Tuesday covering topics such as: Department of Education and state programs update, Return of Title IV Funds, Gainful Employment, and Verification and Satisfactory Academic Progress workshops;
- Default Aversion sessions and workshops on Wednesday including: Default Aversion Boot Camp, Shattering Common Myths about Student Loans and Default, and Faculty and Staff: Allies in Default Aversion.
- Financial Literacy sessions and workshops on Wednesday and Thursday including: Train the Trainer sessions on Spending Plans, Credit Basics, and College Costs. Note that the Texas Education Agency has approved the addition of the TG Financial Literacy Program to the list of instructional materials that teachers can use to teach Texas students basic skills and concepts of money management, and that participants in the workshops can qualify for continuing education units (CEUs) from the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education;
- College Access and Success sessions and workshops on Wednesday and Thursday including: College Admissions for Undocumented Students, TG Materials and Websites, Scholarship Administration, and Communicating with Students and Counseling Techniques; and
- Professional development opportunities, including a session on Facilitation Skills and workshops on Resolving Conflict, as well as a session on Promoting Student Engagement.
